What is Canvassing?
Canvassing is the act of going out into your community and 'knocking doors' to meet face to face with people in your community to raise awareness about and discuss current political issues. This can also include going door-to-door to register voters, remind registered voters of upcoming elections, and more. Canvassing is often done in pairs or groups so even if it is your first time, there will almost always be a more experienced member who can help you become accustomed. Why is it Important? Canvassing is a great way to reach out to your local community. Meeting face-to-face with voters and being able to have political conversations with them is extremely valuable. Canvassing has been known to have a significant impact on voter turnout in local elections, largely due to important canvassing practices such as election reminders. Canvassing can also serve as a great bonding opportunity between club members when done in a group, and can provide future campaign workers with valuable experience. |
